For his collaboration with Case Studyo, Stefan Rinck presents an endearing character with the intent of harnessing the raw power of the sun. Our protagonist seems keen to take a bite, taste pure energy, and experience true power. For this edition, Rinck swapped his beloved stone for bronze. Playing with a combination of brute bronze with a stone patina and polished parts, the artist is able to convey the inherent duality of the sculpture; our sun swallower performs a mystical act of astronomical importance with the lightheartedness of eating a sandwich. The viewer is left guessing what consequences this meal may bring and is inevitably reminded of the immortal words of uncle Ben; “With great power comes great responsibility”.
Armed with hammer, chisel and raw creativity, German artist Stefan Rinck transforms massive stone blocks into mystifying, otherworldly sculptures instilled with stratified symbolism. Working exclusively with natural stone, Rinck’s works seem to transcend time, exuding the aura of remnants of forgotten civilizations while existing as future relics of our modern-day times.
